Module 4: The Bayesian T-Test in JASP

Introduction

In the last two modules, we’ve built the conceptual foundation of Bayesian thinking. We learned the core formula in Module 2 and explored how to think in terms of distributions and updating in Module 3.

Now, it’s time to put it all into practice. This module is our hands-on “how-to” guide. We’ll move from abstract concepts to concrete analysis. You’ll learn how to perform one of the most common statistical tests—the t-test—in its Bayesian form using JASP, a free, user-friendly statistics program with a graphical interface similar to SPSS. We’ll learn how to interpret the main output, the Bayes Factor, and see how it gives us a much richer answer than a simple $p$-value.
